Convert a Word document to PDF in your browser, without uploading it. Text, headings, lists, tables and images convert, and the text stays selectable and searchable in the PDF rather than becoming a picture of a page. Complex layouts — multiple columns, floating text boxes — are simplified into a single flow, which is the honest trade for a conversion that needs no server. Only .docx is supported, so save older .doc files as .docx in Word first.

How to use Word to PDF

  1. Click "Select Word file" and choose the .docx. An older .doc is refused with a message asking you to save as .docx first.
  2. Click "Convert to PDF" and wait while the document is read.
  3. Download the PDF and check any page with a table or an image — those are where a browser conversion differs most from Word itself.

Who it is for

Word to PDF is for sending a document that must look the same on someone else's machine as it does on yours. A CV, a quotation, a report for a client, a letter to a landlord — anything where the recipient should not need Word, and should not be able to change it by accident. It is also the step to take before signing: a PDF is what the other signing tools on this site expect.

How it works

  • The .docx is unpacked in the browser and its document XML is read directly, so headings, lists, tables, bold and italic arrive as real structure rather than as a flattened page.
  • Text is written into the PDF as real text with embedded fonts, which is why it stays selectable, searchable and readable by a screen reader.
  • Everything happens in the tab, so an unpublished contract never leaves your computer.

What it cannot do

  • Only .docx is accepted. An older .doc has to be saved as .docx in Word first, because the two formats share nothing inside.
  • Multi-column layouts and floating text boxes are simplified into a single flow, which is the honest cost of converting without Word itself.
  • An image anchored to float beside text, or a shape drawn with Word's drawing tools, may be dropped or repositioned. Set images inline if they matter.
  • If an exact Word rendering is a legal requirement, print to PDF from Word rather than converting here.

Frequently asked questions

Why does it only accept .docx?

Because the converter reads the Office Open XML package inside a .docx. A .doc is a different binary format entirely and needs Word or LibreOffice to read. Open the file in Word, use Save As and pick .docx — a ten-second step that always works.

How close is the output to what Word would produce?

Close for ordinary documents, not identical for complex ones. Headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, images, bold and italic all convert, and the text is real text. Multi-column layouts and floating text boxes are simplified, because the browser lays the content out in one flow. If an exact Word rendering is a legal or contractual requirement, print to PDF from Word itself.

Is the text in the PDF selectable?

Yes. It is written as real text with real fonts, so it can be selected, copied, searched and read by a screen reader — unlike a scanned or screenshot-based conversion.

Is my document uploaded?

No. The .docx is read and the PDF assembled in your browser, so an unpublished contract or a personal letter never leaves your device.

My images are missing or in the wrong place.

Images convert when they are inline in the document. An image anchored to float beside text, or a shape drawn with Word's drawing tools, may be dropped or repositioned. Set the images inline in Word if they matter.
