Render a Markdown file as a styled PDF, in your browser, without uploading it. Headings, lists, tables, code blocks, links and emphasis are converted with sensible typography, so a README or a set of notes comes out looking like a document rather than raw syntax. Fenced code blocks and aligned columns keep their exact spacing, because reflowing them would break the thing they exist to show.
How to use Markdown to PDF
- Click "Select Markdown file" and choose a .md file.
- Click "Convert to PDF" and wait while the document is parsed and laid out.
- Download the PDF and check any fenced code block and any wide table — those are the two places where a renderer and an author most often disagree.
Who it is for
Markdown to PDF is for anyone who writes in Markdown and has to deliver a document rather than a repository file: a README for a client, release notes, meeting notes, a specification, a set of study notes written in an editor. It is the bridge between writing for plain text and sending something that looks deliberate.
How it works
- The Markdown is parsed into HTML and then rendered with light document styling, so headings, lists, tables, quotes and code blocks all come out with sensible spacing.
- Fenced code blocks are laid out at a fixed width and never reflowed, because their alignment is the content.
- Raw HTML inside the Markdown is sanitised before rendering, so an embedded script cannot run.
What it cannot do
- A wide table or a diagram wider than the page is scaled to fit rather than cut off, which keeps it intact at the cost of smaller type in that block.
- Relative links do not resolve outside the repository they pointed at. Convert them to absolute URLs if the PDF is going to be read on its own.
- Syntax support is the common set; uncommon extensions to Markdown may render as plain text.
- The styling is fixed — there is no control over fonts or margins.
Frequently asked questions
Which Markdown syntax is supported?
The common set: headings, bold and italic, links, ordered and unordered lists, blockquotes, tables, inline code and fenced code blocks. Raw HTML inside the Markdown is sanitised before rendering, so an embedded script cannot run.
Will my code blocks keep their indentation?
Yes. Fenced blocks are laid out at a fixed width and are never reflowed, so indentation and alignment survive, and they are set in a monospace face — which is what makes the difference visible.
Why did a wide table or diagram get smaller?
A layout-dependent region wider than the page is scaled to fit rather than cut off, which keeps the content intact at the cost of smaller type in that block. Splitting the table in the source is the way to avoid it.
Do links work in the PDF?
Links are rendered as clickable anchors. A relative link pointing at another file in the repository will not resolve outside it, so convert absolute URLs if the PDF will be read on its own.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Parsing and layout happen in your browser, so private notes and internal documentation stay on your device.
