Barcode Generator
Generate CODE128, EAN-13, UPC, CODE39 and other barcodes free, and download a print-ready SVG. Runs privately in your browser.
Generate common 1D barcodes — CODE128, CODE39, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC, ITF-14, MSI, and pharmacode — directly in your browser. Enter a value, pick the format, and download a clean, scalable SVG ready for labels, inventory, or retail packaging.
How to use Barcode Generator
- Enter the value you want to encode (digits or text, depending on the format).
- Select the barcode format your scanner or standard requires.
- Check the live preview, then click "Download SVG" to save a print-ready file.
Who it is for
Barcode Generator is for labels: retail packaging, inventory shelves, asset tags, library books, or internal stock codes. It is used by small shops and by people running a spreadsheet of assets who need a code they can print and stick on something.
How it works
- The common symbologies are offered — CODE128, CODE39, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC, ITF-14, MSI and pharmacode — because each is a different standard with its own fixed patterns and allowed characters.
- The barcode is generated in the browser and exported as SVG, which scales to any print size without blurring.
- Choosing the wrong symbology is a common error, so the format should follow whatever the scanner or system expects rather than whatever looks best.
What it cannot do
- EAN-13 and UPC have a check digit with fixed rules; an invalid number is not silently corrected.
- CODE39 and CODE128 carry different character sets, so a code that works in one may not encode in the other.
- An SVG is ideal for print but needs to be opened in a design tool or embedded in a page; it is not a bitmap image.
- There is no batch mode — one code per run.
Frequently asked questions
Which barcode format should I use?
CODE128 handles most general-purpose needs and supports letters and numbers. Use EAN-13 or UPC for retail products, CODE39 for asset tags, and ITF-14 for shipping cartons.
Why does my value show an error?
Each format has strict rules — EAN-13 needs exactly 12 or 13 digits, EAN-8 needs 7 or 8, and UPC needs 11 or 12. If the value doesn't match, switch formats or correct the digits.
Why download as SVG instead of PNG?
SVG is a vector format, so the barcode stays perfectly sharp at any size — essential for printing scannable labels. You can convert it to PNG later if a system requires it.
Is the barcode generated privately?
Yes. Everything runs in your browser with JsBarcode; the value you enter is never uploaded to any server.
