Trim the margins off every page of a PDF, or cut down to the area you care about. Crop PDF sets a new visible page box with separate values for top, bottom, left and right, so a scan with a wide white border can be tightened without touching the content. It is non-destructive: the trim changes what viewers show and print, and the page content underneath is still there.

How to use Crop PDF

  1. Click "Select PDF file" and choose the PDF to trim.
  2. Set the four margins in points. 72 points is one inch, so a 36pt margin is half an inch.
  3. Click "Crop PDF" and download the result.
  4. Open it and check the edge — if you have trimmed into the text, load the original again and reduce the values.

Who it is for

Crop PDF is for trimming the edge off a page: the grey border a scanner adds around a sheet, the wide white margin on an exported report, or the dead space around a diagram that makes it print smaller than it needs to. It is also used to cut a page down to one column of a two-column layout so a converter can read it properly.

How it works

  • Four values set how far in from each edge to trim, in points, where 72 points is one inch.
  • The page gets a smaller visible box rather than losing content, so the trim is non-destructive and can be reversed by setting it again.
  • Every page the tool processes receives the same box, which keeps a scanned document consistent.

What it cannot do

  • Cropping hides content rather than deleting it. Anything outside the new box is still in the file, so it is a layout change, not a redaction.
  • The same margins apply to every page, so a document with mixed page sizes cannot be cropped edge by edge in one run.
  • A crop that cuts into the text is not flagged — check the first page of the output.
  • It cannot straighten a skewed scan; cropping only changes where the page edges are.

Frequently asked questions

Does cropping delete the content outside the box?

No. The page gets a smaller visible area; everything outside it is still in the file and can be brought back by changing the box again or by a tool that resets it. That is good for safety and worth knowing if you are cropping to hide something — it is a trim, not a redaction.

Can I crop only some pages?

The margins apply to the pages the tool processes as a single document, so the same edge is trimmed everywhere. If only one section needs cropping, extract it first with Extract Pages, crop that file, then merge it back with Merge PDF.

How do I crop to a specific rectangle rather than the edges?

The four values describe how far in from each edge to trim, so set them per side — large on the left to remove a margin, small on the right to keep the text. It is the same maths as a print dialog's margins, in points rather than millimetres or inches.

Will cropping change the paper size when I print?

The printed result uses the new visible box, which is what you want: no white border and no scaling of the text. If a printer insists on a fixed paper size, tell it to fit to page and the trimmed page will be centred.

Is my file uploaded?

No. The page boxes are written in your browser, so the document never leaves your device.
