How to use Fill & Sign PDF

Click "Select PDF file" and choose the PDF or form you need to complete.
Choose "Fill text", click where an answer belongs, and type. Set the font, size and colour beside the toolbar, then repeat for each blank.
To sign, either draw in the "Signature pad" below the page and then choose "Draw signature" and click where it belongs, or choose "Sign here" and type your name in a signature font.
Use "Pen" for initials, ticks and crossings out, and Undo to step back.
Click "Fill & Sign" and download the completed PDF.

Who it is for

Fill & Sign PDF is for paperwork that arrives as a PDF nobody made fillable: a scanned tenancy agreement, a printed consent form someone photographed, a supplier contract with blank lines rather than form fields. It is also the right tool when the form does have proper fields but you want to add a signature and initials as well, or tick a box by hand rather than typing into it.

How it works

Text is placed where you click rather than into interactive fields. That is why it works on a scan or a flat form: the tool does not need the document to have been designed with fields.
A signature can be drawn in the pad with a mouse, trackpad or finger, or typed and set in a handwriting face as real embedded text. A drawn signature can be dragged and resized before saving.
Nothing about your signature is stored between sessions, so there is no saved image of it on any server to be exposed later.

What it cannot do

What this adds is a visible signature, not a certificate-based digital signature. It does not prove the document was unaltered after signing, so for anything where that matters a certificate-based signature is the right tool.
If the PDF has real form fields, this tool types on top of them rather than filling them. It looks the same, but the fields themselves stay empty, which matters if a system reads them.
Typed text and pen strokes are committed where you put them. Use Undo and place them again rather than trying to drag them.
Encrypted files must be unlocked before anything can be written into them.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work on a form that is not fillable?

That is exactly what it is built for. Text goes wherever you click rather than into interactive fields, so a scanned form, a form someone printed and photographed, and a PDF that was never made fillable all behave the same. If your PDF does happen to have interactive fields, note that this tool types on top of them instead of filling them — the saved and printed result looks the same either way.

How do I create my signature?

Three ways. Draw it in the signature pad under the page with a mouse, trackpad or finger, then place it and size it with the width control. Or choose "Sign here" and type your name, which is set in a handwriting font as real embedded text. Or use the pen for quick initials. Nothing is remembered between sessions, so there is no stored signature of yours anywhere to leak.

Is a signature added this way legally binding?

A typed or drawn signature is widely accepted for everyday business documents, but what this tool adds is a visible signature, not a cryptographic digital signature backed by a certificate. Whether any given signature is binding depends on the document and on the law where you are, so take advice if the stakes are high — we cannot give it.

Can I move something after I place it?

A drawn signature is placed as an item you can drag and resize before saving. Typed text and pen strokes are committed where you put them, so use Undo and place them again if they land in the wrong spot.

Is my document uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened and saved in your browser. That matters more here than anywhere else on the site: a signed contract or a completed form is exactly the kind of file you should not be handing to someone else's server.

Why will my password-protected PDF not open?

An encrypted file has to be decrypted before anything can be written into it. Remove the password with Unlock PDF first, on a file you own, then fill and sign the unlocked copy.
