Rotate or flip an image and save the result, in your browser, without uploading it. Rotate Image offers 90° clockwise, 180° and 90° counter-clockwise, plus a horizontal or vertical flip — the fix for a phone photo that came out sideways or a scan that is mirrored. Rotation is applied to the pixels themselves, so the saved file is corrected everywhere rather than depending on a viewer honouring a tag.

How to use Rotate / Flip Image

  1. Click "Select image files" and choose the picture.
  2. Choose a rotation from the list. 90° clockwise is the usual fix for a photo taken with the phone held sideways.
  3. Choose a flip if the image is mirrored. A vertical flip turns it upside down in effect; horizontal flips it left to right.
  4. Click "Rotate Image" and download. Both a rotation and a flip can be applied in one pass.

Who it is for

Rotate Image is for the sideways phone photo, the mirrored scan, or the picture that was captured upside down. It is the permanent fix, unlike a viewer's rotate button, because the pixels themselves are rewritten.

How it works

  • The image is redrawn onto a canvas with the rotation and flip applied, then saved as a new file.
  • Quarter turns and flips only move pixels, so nothing is re-sampled and the result is as sharp as the original.
  • A rotation and a flip can be applied in the same pass, which is what fixes a mirrored image that is also sideways.

What it cannot do

  • Only 90° steps and flips. An arbitrary angle would re-sample the pixels and soften the image, so it is not offered.
  • It does not correct a slightly tilted horizon; that needs an editor with a straighten tool.
  • The rotation is permanent in the output — the original is untouched, so keep it if you may want to undo.
  • A rotated image keeps its new dimensions, so a portrait photo turned sideways becomes a landscape file.

Frequently asked questions

Does this rewrite the pixels or just add a tag?

It rewrites them. The output is a new image with the rotation baked in, so it looks correct in every program, on every device, and when printed — not only in viewers that read orientation metadata.

Why are my phone photos sideways in the first place?

Because the camera records which way up it was held as metadata rather than rotating the picture, and some programs ignore that metadata. Rotating here removes the ambiguity permanently.

Can I rotate by an angle that is not 90°?

Not with this tool — the choices are quarter turns and flips, which are lossless. An arbitrary angle would re-sample the pixels and soften the image, and it is not offered.

Does rotating lose quality?

No. A quarter turn or a flip only moves pixels; nothing is re-encoded or resampled, so the result is exactly as sharp as the original.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The rotation is done on your device, so personal photos stay in your browser.
