How to use Chat with PDF
- Paste the document text into the box.
- On a new line, type your question (for example, "Q: What is the refund policy?").
- Click "Ask" to get an answer based on the document.
Who it is for
Chat with PDF is for asking a specific question of a document you cannot quickly search: which clause covers termination, what the warranty excludes, whether the report mentions a particular figure, or what the minutes decided about a topic. It is faster than reading and more precise than a summary.
How it works
- You paste the document text along with a question, and the AI answers from that text rather than from general knowledge.
- The instruction is to draw the answer from the document, so an answer you can check against a page is the expected shape of a good reply.
- Follow-up questions can narrow the answer without pasting the document again in a new session.
What it cannot do
- It works on pasted text, not on a PDF file — extract the text first, and remember that a scan needs OCR before it has any text at all.
- A long document exceeds the input limit and is truncated, so a question about the end of a very long file may miss its context.
- It can still be wrong about what a document says. Treat every answer as a pointer to check, not as a quotation.
- The text goes to a third-party AI provider.

How do I get the text out of my PDF?

What if the answer is not in the document?
The AI is instructed to say so plainly rather than guess, so you can trust that answers come from your document and not from outside knowledge.
Can I ask more than one question?
Yes. Change your question and click "Ask" again. Each request re-reads the document text you pasted, so keep it in the box between questions.
Is my document kept private?
Your text is sent securely only to generate the answer and is not stored on our servers afterward.
Can I ask about a whole document, or only part of it?
The whole text you paste is what it reads, up to the 24,000-character limit. That is roughly 3,500 words, so a long contract may need the relevant section pasted rather than the entire file.
How accurate are the answers?
The instruction is to answer only from the document, which stops it inventing a refund policy — but it can still misread a clause, especially an ambiguous one. Treat an answer as a pointer to the paragraph and check it before you rely on it.
Is my document kept private?
Your text is sent securely only to generate the answer and is not stored on our servers afterward. It does reach a third-party AI provider, so a document under a confidentiality obligation is better searched with PDF to Text.
