Stopwatch / Timer

A free online stopwatch and countdown timer with pause, resume, and an alarm at zero. Works instantly in your browser — no install.

A stopwatch and a countdown timer in one page. The stopwatch counts up with hundredths of a second, and the countdown runs down from any minutes and seconds you set, with an audible beep at zero generated by the browser rather than an audio file. It is the tool you open in a tab and leave running: a workout interval, a presentation, a cooking step, a pomodoro session, or a benchmark you need to watch. No install and no sign-up.

How to use Stopwatch / Timer

  1. Choose the Stopwatch or Countdown tab.
  2. For a countdown, set the minutes and seconds; for the stopwatch, just start.
  3. Use Start/Pause to control it and Reset to clear.

Who it is for

Stopwatch / Timer is for timing something in front of you: a workout interval, a presentation, a cooking step, a pomodoro session, or a benchmark you need to watch. It is the tool you open in a tab and leave running.

How it works

  • The stopwatch counts up with hundredths of a second, and the countdown runs down from minutes and seconds you set, with an audible beep at zero.
  • Both run in the page, so there is no account and nothing to install.
  • The display updates live while you keep using the tab.

What it cannot do

  • A background tab can be throttled by the browser, so a timer left in a hidden tab may drift or fire late.
  • A countdown does not survive a page reload or a closed tab.
  • The beep needs the tab to be allowed to play audio; a muted browser silences it.
  • There is no history of previous runs.

Frequently asked questions

Does the countdown make a sound?

Yes. When the countdown reaches zero a short beep is generated with the browser's audio engine rather than played from a file, so there is nothing to download. It needs the tab to be allowed to play audio — a muted browser silences it.

Can I pause and resume?

Yes. Both the stopwatch and the countdown pause and continue exactly where you left off without losing your elapsed or remaining time.

Will it keep running if I switch tabs?

The timer keeps tracking real elapsed time based on the clock, so it stays accurate when you return, though the beep may be delayed by the browser if the tab is in the background. Browsers throttle background tabs, so a hidden tab can fire late.

Does it survive a page reload?

No. Reloading or closing the tab ends the timer, so for anything you cannot afford to lose, keep the tab open or use a dedicated alarm.

Do I need an account?

No. The timer is completely free and works instantly with no sign-up.
