Text to Speech
Read any text aloud with your browser's built-in voices — adjustable speed and pitch. Fully private, nothing uploaded, and no sign-up.
Read any text aloud using your browser's built-in voices. Choose a voice, adjust the speed and pitch, and press play — everything runs on your device, so nothing is uploaded and no API key is needed. Available voices depend on your browser and operating system.
How to use Text to Speech
- Type or paste the text you want read aloud.
- Pick a voice and adjust the speed and pitch to taste.
- Press "Speak", and use Pause, Resume, or Stop to control playback.
Who it is for
Text to Speech is for listening instead of reading: a document reviewed while commuting, an article turned into audio for a walk, or text played aloud to check how it sounds. It is limited to the voices the device already has, which is a ceiling and also the reason it is instant and private.
How it works
- The browser's built-in speech synthesis engine speaks the text, so nothing is uploaded and no API key is involved.
- Speed and pitch are adjustable before playback, and pause, resume and stop control a long passage.
- The voice list comes from the operating system, so it differs between devices.
What it cannot do
- Some voices are marked "online" and may need a connection; the rest run entirely offline.
- The available voices depend on the device, so a voice you liked on one computer may not exist on another.
- Long text is spoken in one pass with no sentence-level navigation.
- There is no audio file to download — it plays, but it is not saved.
Frequently asked questions
Why are the available voices different on each device?
The voices come from your browser and operating system, not from us, so the list depends on what is installed on your device. Chrome, Edge, and Safari each offer their own set.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Speech is generated by your browser and the text never leaves your device.
Can I change the speaking speed?
Yes. Use the speed and pitch sliders to make the voice faster, slower, higher, or lower before you press Speak.
Some voices are marked "online" — what does that mean?
A few high-quality voices are provided by the browser's online service. Those may require a connection; voices without the label run entirely offline.
Can I download the audio as a file?
No. The speech is played by the browser rather than rendered to a file, so there is nothing to save — the tool is for listening, not for producing an audio asset.
Why do the voices sound different on another device?
The voice list comes from the operating system, so a desktop with a premium voice pack sounds markedly better than a phone with the default set. Nothing about the text changes.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Speech is generated by your browser. A few voices are marked "online" and may use the browser's own service, which is worth knowing before pasting anything confidential.
