How to use Speech to Text
- Choose the language you will speak in.
- Click "Start" and allow microphone access, then speak clearly.
- Click "Stop" when done, then copy or download your transcription.
Who it is for
Speech to Text is for getting spoken words onto the screen: a meeting note, a dictated paragraph, an interview, or a thought captured before it is lost. It is used for quick transcription where a typed record is needed immediately.
How it works
- The browser's speech recognition is used, so words appear as you speak rather than after an upload.
- A language is chosen up front, which matters for recognition accuracy.
- The transcript can be copied or downloaded as a file.
What it cannot do
- Depending on the browser, audio may be processed by that browser's own speech service rather than locally — this is not a guaranteed-private tool, unlike the file tools here.
- Works best in recent Chrome and Edge; other browsers may show a message instead.
- Recognition drops after a pause, and the tool restarts it while you keep speaking, so very long dictation can fragment.
- Punctuation and speaker separation are not reliable.

Which browsers support it?
Speech recognition works in recent versions of Chrome and Edge, and in Safari via its webkit implementation. Browsers without support show a message instead.
Is my audio private?
Recognition uses your browser. Depending on the browser, audio may be processed by its own speech service; nothing is stored by PDFTURA.
Why did it stop listening on its own?
Continuous recognition can drop after a pause; the tool automatically restarts it while you are still listening, so you can keep speaking.
Can I save the transcript?
Yes. Use "Copy" to place it on your clipboard or "Download .txt" to save it as a text file.
Is this private?
Not in the same way as the file tools. Depending on the browser, audio may be processed by that browser's own speech service rather than locally, so treat dictation of sensitive material with the same caution as any online service.
How accurate is it?
Good for clear speech in a quiet room and in a supported language; poor with background noise, strong accents, or several people talking. Punctuation is unreliable, so expect to edit.
